A Truly Custom and Enjoyable Homebuilding Experience When we first began dreaming about building a home, we started, quite literally, with a blank piece of paper and an open farm field. We had ideas, a vision, and a strong sense of what we wanted our future home to feel like — but no floorplan, no model to follow, and no prior experience with custom home construction. What we did have was a desire to build something that was completely our own, not just in layout and finishes, but in spirit, function, and character. At first, we explored the idea of buying an existing home. We toured many, hoping to find something that fit our needs and reflected our style. But no matter how many we visited, everything felt cookie-cutter, too similar, too uninspired. We weren’t chasing luxury. We simply wanted a home that felt right, that aligned with how we actually live and what we truly value. It became clear that a custom home was the only way to achieve that. Even then, we knew we would only take on something of this scale if we had the right partner. Fortunately, we already had a relationship with Bev Totsch and the Tranquility Builders team, having worked with them on previous remodeling projects. We knew firsthand the quality of their work and their thoughtful, honest approach. Most importantly, we trusted them. That trust made the decision possible. If we hadn’t already known Bev, Jim, and the Tranquility team, we probably wouldn’t have done this. There was simply no one else we would have trusted to build something so personal and meaningful from the ground up. From our very first conversation, Bev made us feel confident and understood. Rather than presenting limitations or steering us toward preset designs, she and her team embraced the idea of creating something entirely unique to us. That spirit of collaboration runs deep in the Totsch family, and we were fortunate to work with their sons, Ryan and Elliot, throughout the process. Ryan served as lead designer, helping us translate our ideas into a workable plan and carrying those concepts forward to the architect. Elliot played a vital role on the construction side, overseeing day-to-day execution and making sure the work met the highest standard of quality. The synergy between Bev, Jim, Ryan, and Elliot brought a consistency and care to every step of the project. What started as a blank page quickly became a well-planned, well-managed, and highly enjoyable experience. We worked through floorplan concepts, finalized architectural drawings, and made every decision, large and small, with the support of the Tranquility team and their trusted partners. Tranquility Builders didn’t just build us a house. They built a home that reflects who we are. From cabinets to lighting, from layout to flow, we were part of every detail. What could have been stressful turned out to be something else entirely — fun. We looked forward to site visits, progress updates, and design conversations because we were genuinely excited to watch it all take shape. We were referred to Tranquility by some friends when we were looking to remodel our upstairs. Our friends had used them for multiple projects. We worked with them to remodel our upstairs and had such a good experience that we worked with them again when we were remodeling our basement. Everything about the experience with Tranquility was great. We initially worked with Ryan to scope out and design the project and then Eliot to bring the projects to life. Both are great to work with. Constant communication. Very dependable. Always professional and reasonable when issues unavoidably arise. They do great work. We partnered with Tranquility builders for a sun room addition at our house in Naperville. We are beyond excited at how it has turned out. The design fits our house perfectly and working with Tranquility design team led by Ryan was easy and fun. Ryan used 3D graphics to help us visualize the room both inside and outside. Tranquility is not going to be the most cost economical option, but they do not compromise in the quality of materials or workmanship. They are really upfront. They have a very good team and the ability to really ensure that our room addition (or remodeling) was ultimately done correctly and to our full expectation was really amazing. We honestly felt that it was money well spent. Of course there were some hiccups, but that is to be expected with construction in general specially with supply chain issues. They made an extra effort to hit the deadlines without compromising the quality of construction. Prouct Engineer Elliot was always available to discuss, evaluate and resolve any issues that arose during the project. His subject matter expertise was always apparent and impressive. Not to leave out the team members. They were really nice to work with and always responsive. Overall, we are incredibly happy with the result and honestly think we got the addition that we always wanted. We would not hesitate to work with Tranquility Builders again.

We are so happy that we found Tranquility Builders! We recently bought a new home that needed a significant amount of updating and Tranquility has now remodeled the entire first and second floor of our home (including everything from the kitchen and master bathroom to the mudroom and sunroom). From our first meeting with Ryan, we knew that we could genuinely trust the Tranquility team. Ryan brought creative design ideas to the table, as we knew a second floor laundry room was a must-have for us but couldn’t figure out how to squeeze it in. Ryan came up with a great idea that has worked out perfectly and we are so pleased with the outcome. Bev was our general manager and I simply can’t say enough good things about her. It’s apparent from day 1 that the customer experience is of utmost importance to her and I truly appreciated her open communication throughout the remodel process. Tim was our carpenter and he consistently went above and beyond, his woodwork skills are top notch and he is a pleasure to work with. Tranquility allowed me to make our remodel a truly custom experience from the cabinetry right down to the layout of drawer inserts. Their design software brought everything to life before construction started so I was very confident in what the final product would be, which gave me great peace of mind. By the end of the experience the Tranquility team really felt like family and I look forward to working with them again when we tackle the basement!

The entire Tranquility team was wonderful to work with. They remodeled the majority of our first floor, including our kitchen, powder bath, family room, laundry room and stairs. We chose to live in the house during the renovation with 3 small children and they made the whole experience as painless as possible. Elliott was wonderful with communication and let us know each night who would be at the house the next day. All the contractors were very professional, knowledgeable and great to work with. We made several changes/add-ons throughout the project and both Elliott and our designer Caitlyn were patient with us and helpful in making sure we got exactly what we wanted. Overall, we were very happy with our experience and love our new house! We look forward to working with them again for future house projects.

In a world full of contractors it's hard to know who you can trust. Tranquility will take care of your house as if it's their own. Two years after the project wrapped up an electrical surge in the area caused our main breaker to fail and created a dangerous situation while we were out of town. We called Elliott on the morning of July 4th in hopes he could help and within two hours the breaker was replaced and power restored to the house, free of charge. Thank you Tranquility for building us a beautiful home and keeping us safe!

We previously had Tranquility Builders out to finish our basement, and were impressed with their work that we decided to move forward with them for a kitchen remodel and mudroom extension. It turned out great and they were very easy to work with. As with any project, there were some minor road bumps but Tranquility was always quick to respond and willing to do what it took to make it right. Our program manager did a great job at communicating what was happening, and set out a schedule to give us an idea of when things were to be completed. Overall, we were very happy with Tranquility and look forward to enjoying our beautiful kitchen and mudroom for many years to come.

Five Stars - Highly Recommended Tranquility Builders. Tranquility have redone our last 2 basements and they did an absolutely outstanding job from start to finish. From the initial consultation to the final walkthrough, their professionalism and attention to detail were top-notch. We love our newest basement - they transformed an unfinished space into a beautiful living space, with multiple rooms (an office, TV room, game room) and they added a bathroom! The quality of the work is excellent - the framing, drywall, electrical, plumbing, etc. were all done with skilled craftsmanship. Elliot was our project manager and he kept us updated every step of the way and addressed any concerns we had promptly. When we requested a few small design changes partway through, they accommodated us without issue. We trust Tranquility - we called them about a plumbing issue a few months after the basement was finished and they sent their plumber right out. It's a family business which I like and they delivered a fantastic finished basement at a fair price. We are overwhelmingly satisfied and highly recommend them to anyone considering a basement renovation project. They get an A+ rating from us!
