We chose SG Builders to gut and remodel a ranch house in Naperville’s Cress Creek. SGB was recommended by the builder of our previous townhouse 30 miles away. We looked at competitors, but SGB presented a strong team to design and build that was far superior to the other builders.
Ryan and his team were very transparent on what was realistic and laid out a very detailed cost-plus work plan and budget that gave us deep insight into what subcontractors should do. There were several very memorable positives.
Danielle, the designer in the team brought imagination, deep experience, expertise with materials and vendors, plus flexibility. She was able to accommodate our preferences in lighting, kitchen and bathroom fixtures seamlessly. One highlight was the new powder room half bath that we constructed in the place of a closet near the entry to the home. Another was the front door replacement in black with gold accents. The most magical thing was her input to design of the large granite kitchen island with its waterfall edge facing the fireplace. She worked well as a partner to the lady of the house.
Greg, the Construction Manager, brought deep experience to what could be achieved with taking out walls, lifting a beam, and blowing out the ceiling in the fireplace room to achieve the modern look we were seeking. The fit and finishes met our high expectations, achieving the “luxury hotel “ feeling we wanted throughout the first floor.
Ryan, as the General Contractor, impressed us as willing to literally roll up his sleeves to make things happen with timeliness and iron out unexpected bumps in the road for a mature couple with very high expectations. Overall, they were careful not to cut corners, they used quality materials, and nudged us to stay realistic about costs in today’s economy.
In summary, SG helped us achieve our vision of revitalizing a 45 year old house for a new century. We were able to save the elegant mill work and the accentuate the glass wall feel of the east side of the house to bring nature in, from several directions. Generally, SG was a joy to work with. We are delighted that we made the right choice!

Renovation or new construction. SG Builders is a company that delivers. We had a big ask in a small space. Wanted to open up a wall and with that was every single utility going upstairs. We set a budget before they started and they stayed within it and kept us updated every step of the way. They brought in true professionals and they were in and out and everything was clean and tidy. Not only did we open the wall but we added lights in the ceiling. As well as floors through both rooms. They matched everything from our existing lights to the new and it all looks like it was meant to be. Can’t say enough about this company. I would highly recommend you give them a call for any project.

From the very beginning, the SG Home Builders team was straightforward and transparent about both the cost and the timeline for our project. To note, as a customer you have to be realistic in expectations as well and Ryan was great to help us understand the context and reality of construction.
Large construction projects (we did a large garage + above garage living space addition) can feel like a black-box, but with Ryan and Greg we always knew what to expect, which gave us peace of mind. This was no short process. From initial meeting to completion of the project was 18 months - design with architecture, quoting, permitting with the city and then waiting for Chicago weather to cooperate:) There is a lot of back and forth so having someone you can trust and that is dedicated to open communication is a must.
The team was responsive to every question and detail along the way, making the process smooth and collaborative. They were able to listen to our needs (and wants) and help us weigh options so we could make the best decision for the design and more importantly the budget. We are incredibly happy with the result and would recommend SG Home Builders to anyone looking for a team they can trust.

We are super happy with how our project with SG turned out. Ryan, Greg and Danielle were awesome to work with. They were easy to work with, always kept us updated, and made sure everything was done the way we wanted. The quality is great, and they were happy to change things (when we changed our minds on stuff!) along the way, which was a huge relief. The site was kept clean during the project which meant a lot. The finished project looks even better than we expected. We have, and would recommend them to anyone!

SG Home Builders did a phenomenal job on our remodel. The work was high quality, the process was super smooth, and the team was a joy to work with. They finished on time, came in right on budget, and our house looks new and feels completely transformed.
They’re a local company—run by people who live in the neighborhood—and it shows in the care they take. We redid the kitchen, moved bathrooms, and remodeled the primary bath, and the house truly looks brand new. Their attention to detail was incredible.
A big part of what made it such a great experience was their designer, Danielle. She helped with every single decision—hinges, cabinets, flooring, colors—and somehow made it all feel easy instead of overwhelming. She has a great eye and offered advice without ever pushing.
Greg and Ryan helped rework the layout and came up with some really smart, creative and cost effective solutions. It never felt like they were trying to upsell us or expand the scope. No scope creep at all.
We were out of town for most of the build, and they sent us photos and videos every week so we could see the progress. They’d even walk the house and send options if something needed a decision. It made being away during construction super easy.
When we came home, the house was spotless and move-in ready. Their whole team—from the GC to the cleanup crew—was fantastic. I kept seeing their signs around the neighborhood, and now I know why. Couldn’t be happier and would recommend them to anyone.
