This is my first experience with smart-home features and I must say, it's pretty amazing what Piston Home Automation was able to do, to update and modernize our home.
My favorite features have been safety sensors - such as sensors on the oven, to update you via phone, if your oven has been at a certain temperature, and you perhaps thought it was off. Another great feature is a water sensor installed by Piston Home Automation. Whether underneath in a sink area, in the basement, near a sump pump - any detection of water automatically alerts you via phone.
Yet another great usage of the temperature sensor is for use in the fridge. Should the fridge not close properly/turn off/etc., if the temp rises to a pre-set temp, an alert is also made known that the fridge is potentially off/defrosting.
Piston Home presented such features to us, that I was unaware even existed. Or that they can speak to your phone, with such alerts. I feel safer in the house, or when I leave the house, knowing that these sensors can do their job and alert me, should something be wrong.
Some "fancier" capabilities Piston Home has implemented in our home include smart-lighting. Based on certain sensors, closet lights turn on when the door is opened and turned automatically off, once the door is closed. Great energy efficiency.
When I walk into certain areas of the home, the lights turn on automatically, without having to turn them on manually. There are various "moods" that can be pre-set, depending on the environment you'd like to create within a space - whether full light, party-mode, romantic-mode, away-mode, to name just a few. All this was very new to me, but has been surprisingly really helpful and efficient to have around the house.
Working with Sameer from Piston Home has been very pleasant and easy. I love the recommendations he has brought up, all of which we decided to implement.
All very much worth the cost!

After attempting smart lighting and home automation on our own (and painfully unsuccessful in the process), we began the search for professional assistance. We spoke with a handful of businesses and ultimately decided upon Piston. We had everything installed in November and I wanted to wait a few months to be fully acclimated/test everything before writing the review. The install process was seamless. Sameer (owner) and his team did this in what I consider record time, were beyond detailed in explaining the process of installation, walked us through the system, and were fully accessible as we learned the functions.
Just over three months after install, it is by far the best investment we've made for our home and we couldn't be happier!

I never realized how convenient smart home lighting and automation could truly make life easier within one’s home. That said Piston’s services recognized how to minimize these issues in our home layout with their thorough analysis of our living spaces and hallways. Now my family never needs to worry about an inordinate number of lights left on without abandon, any water heater failures, or simply having to turn on a pull switch when opening a coat closet door. We can also set up a security function for the entire lighting setup of our two story house when the family is away on long vacations. Piston also has been a good partner after installation and adjusts any automations for us as our daily lives change accordingly.

Couldn't be happier with my new system and the price point. I installed automated lighting in my last home from Home Depot and Piston is light years ahead (pun intended) from what I bought last. I also scoped pricing for light automation systems similar to Piston and they were almost a 50% higher cost. Highly recommend Piston!

Piston Home has been an excellent investment for us. My wife and I recently bought our home and we were interested in adding some Smart Home functionality to it. I personally had some ideas as to what this meant, but we only realized our full potential once we got Piston Home involved. I didn't realize the impact motion sensors could have until we really started to connect them with everything. It's amazing how things that were previously so habitual in the past are no longer missed. We now just walk into a room and expect certain things to happen. It is like second nature, and it all depends on the time of day!
We worked with Sameer to get everything up and running, and he has been so helpful and easy to work with throughout the entire process. I also had some devices that I setup before getting Piston Home involved and he helped me get them connected to my home system and talking to one another!
Even after the initial setup, we have been tweaking settings here and there once we started to live and feel each of our spaces, and it's been so easy to work with Piston Home on the changes to make sure we have everything running just how we want it.

I had Piston Home design my lighting after moving here to Chicago. While my condo unit is small and there are not a lot of aspects to automate, I'm really happy with all the new features. First of all, all of my lights are now dimmable! - which is so nice because I can walk into my bathroom without being blinded in the morning. I've got several motion and door sensors so that lights can turn on/off by themselves. They also installed a few water leak sensors around my HVAC and kitchen sink. The whole process was quick and professional. While the electrician was installing the new light switches, the Piston Designer and I spent time walking through my unit to figure out what automations I wanted. The complete installation was done in just one day! I'm very happy with the install, and will do it again in my next home.

We had the pleasure of working with Sameer to install Piston at our house. I was nervous it would be difficult since we have an older home (built in 1951), but Sameer was able to navigate the wiring nuances and peculiarities with ease! What I really appreciated beyond the initial set up was the customer service after the fact. In a new, big house with growing little kids, we had a lot of settling in and adjusting to do with respect to patterns of living and our preferences for lighting and sensors. Through it all, Sameer was patient, understanding, and creative in brainstorming options and solutions to best meet our needs. It's been awesome to grow our family and establish our first home with the comfort, style, security, and peace of mind provided by Piston. What's funny is that even the kids appreciate the "magic" of lights turning on and off throughout the house :) I can't recommend the services and product enough!

We worked with Sameer, the founder of Piston, on the installation and maintenance of our home lighting automation. The level of customer service was exceptional. He catered to our specific (and changing!) needs for the system and worked around our schedule to get the system installed - which was tricky given the chaos of having two young kids at home.
His passion for the work made the whole process very engaging and we got a lot more out of it than we ever expected. There were a number of "off the shelf" automations that were presented to us to get started, but the level of customization from there is what really added value. We've aligned our daily scenes to match up with the time of day, ambient light in the room, and even personal preferences for each person in our home.
The Aftercare Support packages were great, too. It took us a little time to settle into our new system and routines, so being able to change things up after the initial installation was perfect. They were incredibly responsive to requests and worked to make sure we got everything just right.
