Scope Overview:
We engaged DGI for whole home interior design as well as select build/general contracting renovations after purchasing a home during late 2022. We also used DGI for audio, visual, and technology renovations. The home was built ~5 years prior to our purchase. We were moving from an apartment to a large home. It was important that we find a firm who could help us furnish and design our first home, as well as help build, customize, and renovate aspects of the home which would result in us envisioning that we could live there indefinitely ("forever home").
Project Detail:
Initial introductory call with Devon and Mike to provide an overview of our desired scope, share details of home, discuss potential timeline, and discuss budget. Be honest about your budgetary expectations. Devon and Mike will be honest about the budget with you. You are qualifying one another during this call. You owe it to each other to begin aligning on expectations.
Next was a follow up call to discuss initial budget scoping and potential timeline to engage. FWIW, the initial budget was within 5% of the final cost of our engagement. Any additional cost was due to us expanding the scope of the project throughout the engagement or "upgrading" our selections (we asked for the higher cost selections, not DGI).
After aligning on a budget and timeline the DGI team gets to work. Mood boards, design snapshots, exchanging of detailed preferences, etc. This culminates in a fully-scoped design presentation. Your future home will be brought to life through a detailed visual presentation (including a literal itemization of every aspect of the project) as well as sample fabrics, furniture, paint colors, etc. Invest time in this process. You could be surprised by how close the final project resembles what DGI ultimately delivers in your home. Truly bringing a vision to reality. We iterated on <10% of the final design proposal, due to DGI following our preferences and aligning on all key aspects of the project. This provided critical value to us as we both have limited bandwidth due to professional demands.
Once agreeing on a final design, the team gets to work. Furniture is ordered, renovations begin, milestones checked off, etc. I imagine that this part of the process is highly differentiated by client as each engagement will dictate the work underdone. However, we have conviction in an aspect that does not change by client; each team which DGI chooses to partner with (painters, electricians, plumbing, painting, cabinetry, flooring, etc.) is exceptional. Every team that we worked with was professional, exceptional at their craft and respectful (almost to a fault).
Ultimately DGI delivered a home that will be enjoyed by us, and our family and friends for decades. We love to travel, though we have found that coming home from travel can be equally exciting now that we live in a home that we could hardly envision prior to working with DGI. Our friends and family commonly mention that they don't want to leave. Every detail in the home was specifically curated for entertainment, enjoyment, and relaxation. The feelings are palpable and we couldn't be happier with the result.
Interactions with the Team:
Devon and Mike are both exceptional at what they do. They are authentic founders and hands-on operators. While those two excel in their own competencies, we found it more impressive that DGI delivers more than Devon and Mike. It was evident to us that they have cultivated and built a talented team with depth and knowledge that is complimentary across the firm. Every employee interaction was met with prompt response times (including late nights and weekends) and insightful and exciting ideas (both design and project management).
