I highly recommend 1st Design Interiors. As a more mature person, I wanted the bathtub removed in my bathroom in order to put in a walk in shower. I also wanted some subtle safety bars installed without the bathroom looking like a nursing home bathroom. I truly felt no inspiration regarding the possibilities of changing the bathroom into something that felt warm, safe, and practical. I had absolutely no idea of what my bathroom style was, but I knew that I would be open to any creative ideas that Julie may have. Hiring 1st Design was one of the better decisions that I’ve made. Julie is a treasure. She came up with designs for the bathroom that I never would’ve thought of, ever. Julie really listened to ideas that I thought I wanted and melded my thoughts into an absolutely beautiful bathroom design that I will be able to enjoy for years to come. This may sound silly, but I’m really proud of how the bathroom turned out and this is due to Julie’s expertise and creativity. We had a time capsule of a kitchen stuck in 1975. Julie created a beautiful new kitchen and we could not be happier. Our friends compliment all the time. 1st Design Interiors impressed us. Our new kitchen in contemporary and uniquely us. The bathroom was so awful and again Julie impressed us and also our entry foyer needed a big refresh. That looks amazing.

Julie did a full redesign of my kitchen, which required a complete gutting and reimagining of the space. Several professionals who had given me prior quotes didn't know quite what to do with it, but Julie's incredible vision and eye for detail solved the problem with one simple suggestion: closing up one doorway and moving it to the perpendicular wall. With this solution, we were able to turn a dated, awkward space into something elegant and refined, while staying true to the character of the house. Julie provided detailed 2D and 3D renderings, dealt with the ordering of the cabinets and appliances, gave me plenty of different options, and didn't hesitate to provide revisions when I wanted to tweak things. She was available when I had questions, helped me narrow down aesthetic finishes, and met me several times at design and hardware shops to help me find what I wanted. She never pushed her personal preferences, but allowed me to reach conclusions organically, while providing gentle guidance. Even when the project stretched months longer than anticipated (which was due to the disfunction of the contractor and had nothing to do with her), she remained available, and always answered time-sensitive texts and phone calls. Her fee was very reasonable, and I enjoyed working with her. I plan to use her for a future bathroom renovation, and truly cannot recommend her services enough.

Once the renovations were completed, she came back out to help with paint colors. In fact, we were so impressed with her that she is helping us redesign other rooms in our house. My wife and I hired Meris and his team at Grand Installers to remodel our kitchen in Naperville using IKEA cabinetry. The scope of the project also included removing a non-load bearing wall, removing soffits, replacing a window, and installing new KitchenAid appliances purchased from Abt. Meris recommended that we hire Julie Constantine, owner of 1st Design Interiors, which we did. Although we had a pretty good idea of what we wanted in our new kitchen, we thought it would be a good idea to avail ourselves of a professional designer, especially one with experience with IKEA. Working with Julie Constantine was as easy as it gets. A quick phone call was all it took to schedule an in-home consultation. We had already worked up something using IKEA's software. What Julie did was to take those ideas, and add finesse and polish. She moved the refrigerator to the center of the wall, flanked by floor to ceiling pull out pantries, making the fridge look almost built-in. She added a coffee and tea nook on the corner of the same wall, making the entrance from the dining room softer and more inviting. She rearranged the cabinets on the outside wall, and came up with much more innovative solutions to the dead corner space and other cabinets. Now that we have everything back in its place, and having had an opportunity to now work and cook in our new kitchen, we realize just how much functionality and value she added for her most reasonable fee. We highly recommend her.
